Holiday Season coming up

With the holiday season coming up, and me being Jewish, I was wondering if there were any ATLA/LOK related Chanuka (Hannukah) pics out there. I’ve seen plenty of Christmass ones, but hardly any Chanuka ones.

So who knows of any? And perhaps if you’re an artist maybe you’d like to draw some to make your fellow ATLA/LOK fans happy during this years’ holiday season. :)

These are the ones I did find:

General Fong’s Profound Wisdom

He might’ve been a douche but he was right after all. The ATLA/LOK history books will describe him as the Sun Tzu of their world.

“Just glow it up.” Were the words of wisdom of the legendary General Fong. At first, the young Avatar Aang and his brave companions refused to heed to Fong’s advise, but in the final battle against the tyrannical Firelord Ozai it was proven that the Avatar just had to ‘glow it up.’

Contrary to common belief, mastering of all four elements wasn’t a necessity. All the Avatar had to do was to get hit in the back by a sharp stone, in order to get into the Avatar State. To… ‘glow it up.’

Likewise we see about seventy years later in the annals of Avatar Korra. After the evil Amon had taken away people’s bending, including the Avatar’s, all she had to do was to ‘glow it up’ in order to set all things straight.

Now we see, and understand, the profound wisdom of General Fong The Wise.”

Writer and Artist (un)extraordinaire: "Avatar is such a kids' show!"

Fellow Avatar fans, if anyone- anyone- says this to you while you’re fangirling/fanboying, I would like you to look that asshole in the eye and call bullshit.

Now, the thing about our high school/college hierarchy is that watching shows like Jersey Shore and 16 and Pregnant puts you in the elite.

HA.

Don’t let any of ‘em tell you that you can’t wake up at 11 in the morning to watch Avatar: The Legend of Korra. They’re the ones watching that crap TV, where all people do is cheat on each other and argue and are basically total bitches to each other.

So, if anyone calls you a ‘nerd’ or ‘immature’ for liking the series, get right up in their face and say:

“Listen here, motherfucker. I can assure you that Avatar/Legend of Korra is not a kids’ show.”

If they argue and say, “Yeah it is, it’s a cartoon!”, you grab them by the collar and tell them this:

“This ‘little kid cartoon’ taught me a lot more than your dumb Reality TV show has.”

“But it’s childish and stupid. It’s for toddlers!” they’ll probably argue.

This is where you deliver the finisher:

“It’s not for toddlers, and I can give you plenty of things that are definitely not for kids on this show, and this is in no particular order either:

  • Katara and Sokka’s mom is dead
  • Katara and Sokka’s dad left them
  • Aang runs away from home.
  • Aang’s whole race is dead and he has to deal with the fact that he’s the last airbender alive. His whole family is gone.
  • They’re facing a war against an evil tyrant that wants to slaughter thousands of innocent people.
  • Zuko was banished from his home when he was a kid. His own dad burned half his face, giving him a scar.
  • Zuko’s mom disappeared.
  • Iroh’s son is dead.
  • Toph runs away from home.
  • Toph is blind and is still a complete badass despite her disability.
  • Azula’s completely insane.
  • Sokka loses his first love.
  • The Dai Li brainwashes people.
  • Jet dies.
  • Teo is bound to a wheelchair.
  • AANG FUCKING DIES AT ONE POINT.
  • Sokka and Zuko break into prison to set free war prisoners.
  • Sokka and Suki were obviously involved in a sexual relationship towards the end of Book 3.
  • Katara is bitter with her father over him leaving.
  • Katara has a moral issue when she weighs killing her mother’s murderer or letting him live.
  • Aang has to face a great obstacle when he decides to master the Avatar state- he has to let go of everything he loves.
  • Aang has to deal with the fact that he might have to kill someone, which is completely against all his beliefs.

And in Legend of Korra:

  • Korra runs away from home.
  • There’s an issue in Republic City with Oppressor vs. Oppressed, which is a political issue clearly not aimed for kids the ages of 5-7.
  • Korra is arrested.
  • Mako and Bolin’s parents are dead.
  • Mako watched his parents die.
  • The brothers are poor and relying on tournament money to pick their lives up again.
  • The boys were involved with freaking gangs.
  • Bolin takes a job that’s no doubt illegal to get enough money for the tournament.
  • Bolin is kidnapped.
  • Korra has to deal with an identity crisis when she learns of Amon’s powers (she thinks the Spirits might favor him over her)
  • Korra is captured by the Equalists.
  • Korra was at Amon’s mercy; there were many possibilities of what could have happened there.
  • Amon had the chance to kill Korra, but instead threatens her, telling her that she’s weak and that she will have everything important to her taken from her. Then, he’s going to kill her.

These shows have taught me that it’s okay to be afraid, that you can be forgiven for past mistakes, that you can be strong even when other people think you are weak, and that sometimes, friends are the best family out there. All your shows teach you is that you can be a horrible person and still be famous. I dare you to say that this is a kids’ show again. I dare you.”

By this time, the asshole who dared to cross your path will shut up. After doing this, you will adjust your robe (or jacket, whatever the fuck works) and walk away, off to get ice cream and celebrate your victory.

Another soul has been enlightened.

ATLA Test: What Are You?

Wow, this was actually the first ‘good’ test I’ve seen so far (and believe me, I’ve seen a lot). But somehow the main result still doesn’t quiet surprise me. ;-)  Though I would’ve guessed ‘Water Tribe’ would come as #2. But apparently I was wrong on that one.
You can take the test here and see where you belong.

Your result for The Avatar: the Last Airbender Bending Test …

Fire Bender

65% Fire, 30% Earth, 10% Water and 5% Air!

Fire Bender

You are a Fire Bender.  Fire is the element of power, consisting of overpowering force tempered by the unflinching will to accomplish tasks and desires.  Chances are, you are the type of person that will not let anyone stand in their way.  If you see something you want, you go after it, and usually get it.

The man with the plan

I just saw the new episode and realized how much I  like Amon (with Tenzin as a close second). Those who know me know I have a tendency to lean towards the antagonists’ side (at least I had in ATLA). But Amon and his Equalists just blew me away.

Not that I agree with them, for I still regard fire as the superior element (*prepares for stoning*). It’s just that Amon is such a better villain than Ozai was.

The Fire Nation was out on world domination and we know they weren’t the first ones. Just like in our world there have always been people with dreams of world domination. While Sozin still made sense and started the war under pretences of ‘sharing the Fire Nation’s prosperity with the world’, Ozai was just like “MWUHAHAHA the world will be mine! MWUHAHAHA”

It was probably the only thing in ATLA which made me Sokkaslap myself.

Amon on the other hand, makes the perfect villain. Why? Because he’s chasing after his goals for a ‘good reason’. He’s doing it with the ‘right motivations.’  He is right on every argument he has given so far. Though he’s taking it to the extreme, which isn’t good.

Now in the latest episode we saw how Korra was captured. And while he had the chance to  ‘take away’*  her bending, he didn’t. He wanted to spare Korra for the last. Which gives us a glimpse of the situation in Republic City. Amon must feel like he has everything under control and wields great power. Either he is a fool for letting Korra go like this, or he is a terribly dangerous, charismatic and powerful tactician  with lots of support. I’m pretty sure he’s not a fool.

He has his own plans and he’s using  Korra for them, and of course the young Avatar is totally falling for it.

‘A voice in the night’ made me respect Amon even more. The Equalists are the perfect antagonists. Instead of the archetype villain with the evil laugh we actually got a well thought out movement with ‘good intentions’ taken to the extreme.

It’s simply amazing to see how much thought’ Bryke put in this whole thing.

Besides that I also love how dark LOK is. Amon’s cult-ish ways of doing ‘his thing’ make me like this series even more.

*Note: I put this in between quotation marks because I don’t believe he can really take away people’s bending.

Anyone remember this?

Bryke asked the fandom to stay away from the leaked Korra trailer - a trailer. So what the heck are people doing with leaked episodes? I mean.. c’mon whole episodes? Why hacking into Nick’s servers, stealing the episodes and spreading them all over the Internet while you know of Bryke’s request not to do so.

Really people. Do you really not have the patience to wait one - yes, only one, just one - week for a new episode? Back in the days of ATLA’ we - the fandom - had to wait for insane periods of time to get a new episode. Even after ATLA we’ve waited two years for LOK to air. So I think ‘one week’ isn’t that bad at all, don’t you think?

You are not only giving the fandom a bad name. But most of all.. You are all disrespectful towards those who already gave us a special gift called ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ and are giving us now another wonderful present; namely ‘The Legend of Korra’.

I understand you are eager to see the episodes, and so is everyone! But I, and with me a lot of people, do not want to go against the wishes of Bryke and prefer to wait a week than to have it stolen from Nick’s servers.

I know the thieve(s), for that is what they are, will not listen to me if I ask them to stop hacking Nick. So I’ll only ask of them to stop leaking the episodes. At the same time I’d also like to ask people to stop reblogging any kind of leaks (clips, screenshots, etc). It has become quite annoying now. It’s not like they’re doing anyone a favor with it. What if Nick decides to actually delay the original airdates because of the leaks? I wouldn’t want that to happen.

Besides, hundreds of little poor innocent kittens will lose their faces because of these people. If they don’t stop… we’ll have PETA breathing down our necks as well.

Subtitle translated of… ‘a leak’?

Okay, so allegedly our ‘man-behind-the-mask-spoiler-picture’ is a leak from an upcoming episode called ‘skeletons in the closet’. Apparently our Korra-friends will each have a nightmare with this being in Tenzin’s one.

Hence the “I am your father” subtitle in Arabic (I asked a friend of mine to translate it). If this is true, it’d be very interesting to know as to why there is an Arabic subtitle…

However, I still ask you to take this with a grain of salt since it has not been confirmed yet.

The Man Behind The Mask ‘spoiler’

Like many of you probably already know there is this so-called ‘spoiler-picture’ going around the internet. The picture (see below) shows ‘Amon’ taking off his mask.

Now, there are a few problems I have with believing this picture to be real. I’ll name a few in no specific order.

#1, for those who think it’s Aang. Well, it can’t be him and the reason why not is, I think, pretty obvious. Korra is the new avatar. As we know there can only be one avatar who gets reincarnated into someone else after he/she passes away.

#2, There are currently only four airbenders in LOK (which is confirmed by Bryke). So Amon couldn’t possible be an Airbender.

#3, Last time I checked LOK has only been aired in The States so far. What’s up with the Arabic subtitle? ATLA hardly attracted any fans in the Arab world anyway.

#4, Didn’t Amon say ‘the firebender’ took his face? The only thing I see is missing, is his eyebrow. And if then it must’ve been a pretty skilled firebender, to burn off someone’s eyebrow without leaving a scar. Of course Amon’s backstory could just be nothing more than some sob-story to gain the people’s sympathy. But even then I still have more than enough reasons to believe the picture is not real.

#5, Why would someone who hates benders so much’ make himself look like an Airbender by tattooing those arrows on his head?

#6, Okay, what I’m going to say now can be disputed, I know, but still… The guy’s too old to be Amon. Just look at how old and frail he is in this pic. Now compare that to how agile and fast Amon is when he fought Lightening Bolt Zolt in The Revelation.

*takes a deep breath*

There are many more reasons I could give why I think this picture is a fake. But I think the ones mentioned above are enough for now.

"Amon?"
